November 12, 2025: interBayes Hackathon.

9:00-11:30 at the CIRCUS Old Observatory, Uppsala University.

This hackathon-style event is designed to bring together interdisciplinary researchers to tackle complex problems in the life sciences. This event will focus on applying Bayesian methodologies using Stan, a popular probabilistic programming language, to address key challenges across a range of life science disciplines.

The event will foster collaboration between researchers from diverse fields. Participants will work in small teams, using Stan to implement Bayesian models and methodologies to investigate real-world life science problems, from proteomics and pharmacology to political science and beyond. We look forward to your participation in what promises to be an exciting and productive event at the intersection of life sciences and statistics!

October 23, 2025: A Taste of Bayes. Practical Bayesian Statistics for Social Scientists seminar.

12:00-13:00, at the CIRCUS Old Observatory, Uppsala University.

This 1-hour lunch seminar offers an accessible and practical introduction to Bayesian statistics, tailored for researchers who want to begin applying Bayesian modeling in their own work. The session will cover: - A practical overview of Bayesian statistics and modeling - Approaches to model construction and evaluation - Implementing Bayesian models using Stan

The session will lay the foundation for joining a CIRCUS workshop on how to use Stan for practical research problems later in the fall. Prerequisites: basic knowledge of statistics and programming is recommended but not necessary.

Lunch sandwiches and coffee/tea will be served.

April 8, 2025: Introductory Stan tutorial.
9.00-12.00 at the Circus observatory, Uppsala University.
A hands-on tutorial on how to get started with Stan.
April 2, 2025: Bayesian matchmaking.

13.00-16.00 at the Circus observatory, Uppsala University.

In this matchmaking event, we aim to connect researchers across disciplines who work at Uppsala University and use, or want to start using, Bayesian methods or the probabilistic programming framework Stan. The event will comprise a series of short talks and ample time to connect with other researchers over structured coffee breaks.

To bounce ideas and explore possible collaborations, we invite participants to contribute a short talk that either:
A. Pitches a research problem that could potentially be catalysed by Bayesian inference, or
B. Presents an ongoing Bayesian inference project.

Talks should be approximately five minutes long and easily understandable to an interdisciplinary audience.
